The primary function of the Uniform Patrol Division is patrolling the city, enforcement of penal statutes and ordinances, maintaining public order, traffic law enforcement, and offering assistance, information; and providing public services as needed.
Lieutenant Eric Atkinson is the Area Commander for the city, west of Pacific Coast Highway (West Command). Lieutenant Atkinson has been a police officer with the City of El Segundo for 16 years. His past assignments include patrol officer, detective, field training officer, use of force instructor, SWAT sniper, patrol sergeant, personnel sergeant, and community police academy facilitator. He holds a master’s degree in public administration from National University, a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Long Beach State University, and is a proud graduate of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute and West Torrance High School.
