Do you have a friend or family member that is elderly or requires additional help and needs to be checked on regularly, or are you that person and would like to receive a phone call to ensure you’re doing well?
You can sign up for the El Segundo Police Department’s “You Are Not Alone” (YANA) Program.
Learn more about the YANA Program and how to apply below.
How does it work?
The YANA program is free to all El Segundo residents and helps provide ongoing contact for seniors, persons with disabilities, or anyone who can benefit from the routine contact. The El Segundo Police Department Volunteers make the phone calls to the participants weekly on a day and time designated by the resident. If three phone calls are unanswered, a phone call is made to the emergency contact on file. If after both attempts, the resident still cannot be reached, the YANA volunteer contacts the ESPD program coordinator, and a welfare check is made at the persons residence.
What are the benefits?
The program provides peace of mind and a sense of comfort and confidence for the City’s homebound older or disabled adult residents who enjoy the independence of living alone. Isolated people are at a higher risk for exploitation from predators who target older adults and those who lack social support. By staying connected to the community, participants can reduce the chance of being victimized. The program also provides access to community information for support or referrals.
