SWAT team members gathered in group in SWAT uniform

The El Segundo SWAT Team was formed in 1983 in preparation for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. The team consisted of two Sergeants and nine Officers. The current team includes a Lieutenant (Team Commander), four Sergeants (Team Leaders and Long Rifle Team Leader), 10 operators and four El Segundo Fire Department Paramedics.

The SWAT Team is a specialized unit who responds to high risk situations that are beyond the abilities or equipment needs of other department personnel. The majority of these situations involve search and/or arrest warrants; as well as, barricaded subjects, hostage takers, active shooters and dignitary protection details. Anytime the team is deployed, the goal is successful resolution of the incident, using team work and discipline, while maintaining the preservation of life for all persons involved.
