The Field Operation Bureau is the department’s largest bureau with the most personnel assigned. The bureau consists of the Patrol Division and the Special Operations Division.
The primary function of the Patrol Division is to patrol the city, enforce penal and traffic statutes and offer assistance to the public. The Patrol Division accomplishes this by maintaining a visible presence in the community, responding to calls-for-service and conducting proactive preventive patrol. The Patrol Division utilizes the Area Command Program (ACP). The ACP aims to improve the effectiveness of our services, while further developing a positive relationship with our community members. The ACP divides the city into two geographic areas that are managed by two lieutenants. The area west of Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) is designated the West Command and the area east of PCH is the East Command.
The primary function of the Special Operations Division is to ensure smooth and safe movement of traffic in the city. It also handles parking control, animal control, K-9 and SWAT Team operations. This is accomplished by engineering the direction of vehicular traffic, enforcement of traffic regulations, educating the public, follow-up investigation of traffic collisions, enforcing animal related laws, coordinating standardized K-9 training and maintaining a constant state of SWAT Team readiness through training and planning.
The combined efforts of the divisions in this bureau directly contribute to impacting crime and making the City of El Segundo one of the safest communities in Los Angeles County.
